What a great time we had at the Basketball Hall of Fame! It's a good mix of history, notable people and events, as well as interactive activities suitable for all ages. It was clean (always a plus) and there was plenty of room, even though it was vacation week. The staff were friendly and helpful too. They even give a AAA discount! It was fun to learn that James Naismith began with peach baskets for hoops. We've come a long way since then. We enjoyed seeing the Harlem Globetrotters, although we wish we could have seen them play a little bit. I guess nowadays people are more interested in autographs than demonstrations. We were moved by the display for Kay Yow of NC State. We are big fans of her courage on and off the court. The story of her battle against breast cancer is poignant and inspirational. We were sad to hear that she ended her battle a couple of weeks ago, although she said she was ready to meet Jesus, so we're glad we will get to meet her one day. The only downside of the Hall of Fame was that they had some pricey restaurants and a Subway. So, in this economy, all the hundreds of people there were in line at the Subway. (It took us an hour for a quick lunch!) Perhaps a pizza joint would be good to add. I guess no one saw a recession coming when they planned the food choices. Anyway, we will definitely go back and highly recommend it for even the most reluctant b-ball fans like me!
P.S. They seem to have overlooked one important athlete in their enshrinement selection. I guess I need to lobby them to induct Danny Ainge. It's just not the same without him!
