It's amazing that all that metal fits in her little mouth!


So, it was finally Jessica's turn. She ended up getting a mouthful of braces, a spring to make room for a new adult tooth, and a MARA (Mandibular Anterior Repositioning Appliance). That's the appliance on the roof of her mouth that acts like a jack for a car, or a tension rod for the shower. Just like you crank the jack to lift the car away from the ground or the shower rod to push tightly against the wall, the more you crank the MARA, the more it separates her palate to make more room. I have to crank it twice a day. It is very painful and she will probably end up with a gap between her front teeth before the braces move everything into place.
